Exhaust System Parts We Service

Muffler & Tail Pipe

Situated at the tail end of your exhaust system, the muffler and tailpipe serve a dual purpose: minimizing engine noise while efficiently expelling harmful exhaust emissions from your vehicle's operation.

Exhaust Pipe

Your exhaust pipe is designed to transport vehicle emissions, treated by the catalytic converter, to the muffler for quite expulsion, ensuring a smoother, environmentally friendly ride.

Catalytic Converter

Converts some of the toxins in the exhaust gases into water and carbon dioxide reducing the emissions produced by your vehicle. Oxygen sensors are also usually located before and after the catalytic converter.

Your vehicle’s exhaust comprises all the components of your exhaust system, from the exhaust manifold (where it connects to the engine) to the tailpipe. The muffler, a part of the exhaust system, plays a crucial role in noise reduction and exhaust gas expulsion.

There are several key indicators that your muffler requires service, these include:

  • Muffler has fallen off your vehicle
  • It is dangling or scraping the ground
  • Makes a louder noise than usual
  • Rattling or clanging noises

A vehicle can still run with a damaged exhaust, but there are several important considerations to keep in mind: Safety is the biggest concern as dangerous fumes may enter your car’s interior posing a serious health risk. In addition, there may be reduced engine performance, increased noise, environmental concerns and the damage may trigger a check engine light to turn on, especially if an oxygen sensor is affected.

If you suspect your exhaust is damaged, it’s essential to get it checked and repaired by a professional as soon as possible.

The lifespan of a muffler can vary based on several factors, but on average, a muffler should last between 5 to 7 years but may last longer or fail sooner depending on your driving frequency and the environmental conditions.

A basic muffler replacement shouldn’t take more than an hour to complete, however additional time will be needed if the mid-pipe or downpipe also need replacement or service. If this is the case, it can take 2-3 hours to service your exhaust system as these pipes may be difficult to get to and replace along with your muffler.

What our Clients Say

We have been searching for an honest and good mechanic shop for a few years after moving into Waterloo region, a friend recommended BAC Auto Centre and John. We brought my wife’s SUV in for a rattling exhaust and a rough idle. We spoke with John and Bruno, they were friendly, honest and upfront with us. They fixed her SUV in the timeline promised. These guys are honest, hard working and keep their word. They do what it takes to earn your business, get you back on the road and keep you satisfied.

I had my aftermarket exhaust system installed by them on April. The service was good and reasonably priced. Four months later, the exhaust had developed a tapping noise while accelerating. I brought my truck in, they fixed the problem and changed both sides of side marker bulbs for me at no charge. I am impressed with the high level of attention and customer service. It made me feel I’m taken care of. Thanks John!

Took my SUV in for a flex pipe replacement. I was pleased to learn only one pipe needed to be replaced, very honest of them. Work was done quickly, well in advance of when I expected to get the vehicle back. Excellent service from the team there, would definitely recommend.
